Cloth What?!

My cloth journey began at the doctors office when I took my then one year old daughter in for a redness on her bottom. We had tried pampers as I do with all of my babies in hopes that they can wear them. I like pampers because they are super soft and smell yummy. My oldest wore pampers.  Well they didn't work for her (or the rest of my children as well). They blistered and got red bumps when they wore them. Next we tried Huggies because I wasn't going to be cheap when her little bum was so red. That seemed to work ok it definitely calmed things down. But she screamed and cried when I wiped her bottom. That was why I had taken her to the doctor. He said it's commercial wipes and that they are burning her bottom that I needed to use cloth wipes. And off he went.

Dr.Kramer is always crazy like that. He'll tell you something so matter of factly, like everyone knows because its common knowledge. I had NO idea what a cloth wipe was or how to find one. So what did I do? I did what everyone does, I turned to Google. I found a bunch of postings on how you can make wipes at home. At this point I only had three children but I thought to myself there is no way I am making a wipe. First of all I'm not sure where my sewing machine is and second I'm not that good at sewing. After more googling I found ones that you could purchase. That was the day that I found the cotton babies web site. It is a cloth diaper web site. I remembered with my first that I wanted to cloth diaper but my mother in law said that we needed pins and plastic covers and I was so not going to use a pin. I have very shaky man hands  and didn't want to accidentally stick her.

So on the website I found a wipes warmer, bumgenius flannel and bamboo wipes, oder remover spray, and traveling wet bag. The plan was going to be to use the wipes in the warmer at home and use the wet bag and warm water on the go. The wet bag was to put the dirty wipes in after I used them. The spray was to spray it down if anything got too stinky. Armed with my supplies and a little bit of knowledge this was the beginning of cloth in the Dunson home.
